Prince Charles - Heir to the Throne
Born in 1948, Prince Charles is the oldest son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. His mother, Queen Elizabeth II, assumed the throne when he was four years of age. From the ages of 5 and 8, Prince Charles was cared for by a governess, Catherine Peebles. In 1955, he was the first heir to attend school, instead of having a traditional private tutor. Prince Charles attended Hill House School, the Cheam Preparatory School and Gordonstoun. Instead of joining the military, as was tradition, Prince Charles went to secondary school and then to a university. He attended Trinity College in Cambridge, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1970, and a Master of Arts Degree in 1975. Prince Charles was in the air force and the navy. In 1971 he trained to be a jet pilot at the Royal Air Force College at Cranwell, and then attended the Royal Naval College at Dartmouth.
